A family ... to have, to have not, to be, to love

To have
nearby or far away
to visit by phone
or email
or skype
or Facebook
or some other social medium
or to write a letter,
send a card
or to visit
up close and personal

Families
you miss them
sometimes
and
sometimes again,
it doesn’t matter
whether you miss them or not
They don’t miss you

You want
what once was
But you can’t go back

Can only go forward
and hope for the best

You pray
asking the Lord
to show you
what to do
how to proceed
how to live
with or without.

Depression
gets the best of you

you want
but you can’t always have
what you want

Sometimes what we want
is not God’s best for us
Sometimes you just have to
wait
and wait
and wait.
So endless
So tiring
Waiting and waiting
and waiting some more

Wanting
a family
God gives you what you need
when He deems it right.

Sometimes a family
is just two,
A man and a woman
married to each other.

Sometimes it is only one,
yourself.

Sometimes it is the
4-legged children
who share our abode
and not the 2-legged variety
we think we have so wanted.

Sometimes a family
is the friends
we have
who help
make our life
worthwhile ....
who share
their time
to make
memories
pleasant
for another ....
who listen
without
judgement or prejudice ...
who desire
God's best
for us.

Sometimes
a family
is
adopted
far, far away
another country
or
perhaps
they are
just
around the corner ...
willing to break down
the walls of
silence
and
sadness
overcoming you
and be your
family
for a little while
while they can
when you need it
when the time is right.

A family
that hugs
and loves
not keeping record
of all the wrongs done
not reminding you
of failings
and failures

A family
to have
to hold
to cherish
to share
to be
no matter
how small or big
rich or poor

A family
to love
